Daily outlook – 8th April 2011 (00:30GMT)

Currency Updates:

U.S. Dollar Trading (USD) some risk aversion kept USD weakness limited with the market reacting to news of fresh aftershocks in japan and Oil moving above $110 on continued middle eastern fears. Weekly Jobless Claims we good at 382k vs. 392k previously. In US stocks, DJIA -17 points closing at 12409, S&amp P -2 points closing at 1333 and NASDAQ -3 points closing at 2796. Looking ahead, FOMC Member Fisher Speaks

The Euro (EUR) was surprisingly subdued even as the ECB raised rates to 1.25% with President Trichet signaling a pause for next month. Support under 1.4300 was solid and the market could push higher in coming days if sentiment remains strong. &nbsp Overall the EUR/USD traded with a low of 1.4241 and a high of 1.4328 before closing the day around 1.4300 in the New York session. Looking ahead, February trade Balance forecast at 12.5bn vs. 11.8bn previously.

The Japanese Yen (JPY) the USD/JPY fell sharply in the US session on news of the strong aftershock but when no damage was reported the pair reclaimed the key Y85 level and crosses marched higher. Overall the USD/JPY traded with a low of 84.47 and a high of 85.51 before closing the day around 85.00 in the New York session.

The Sterling (GBP) kept inside the previous days range orbiting around the 1.6300 level. The BoE held at 0.5% as widely expected and instead tracked the Euro movement. EUR/GBP in very stable in recent session as the market waits for further catalyst to produce fresh direction. &nbsp Overall the GBP/USD traded with a low of 1.6262 and a high of 1.6352 before closing the day at 1.6320 in the New York session. Looking ahead, March PPI forecast at 2.1% m/m.

The Australian Dollar (AUD) tested the 1.0500 barrier before reversing hard in the US session on the Japan news but is well supported on dips and further gains are likely in coming session after very strong jobs data. March Employment change +37k vs. +22k forecast. Overall the AUD/USD traded with a low of 1.0410 and a high of 1.0510 before closing the day at 1.0465 in the New York session.

Oil &amp Gold (XAU) was very contained near $1460 but is threatening to push high. Overall trading with a low of USD$1452 and high of USD $1465 before ending the New York session at USD$1460 an ounce. Oil extended gains to fresh year highs above $110 a barrel. WTI Oil Closed +$1.47 at $110.30 a barrel.
